Google plugs ‘high risk’ Chrome browser holes

Google has shipped another Chrome browser update to fix multiple security security vulnerabilities.

Some of these security holes can be exploited by malicious people to conduct spoofing attacks, bypass certain security restrictions, and potentially compromise a user’s system, according to this Secunia advisory.Secunia rates this a “highly critical” update.

SEI: 70% of U.S. millionaires use social media

A bigger percentage of American millionaires use social media than the average American, according to a new poll by investment firm SEI.

While 61% of all Americans use social media sites such as LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter, 70% of millionaires are engaged. Such are the findings of SEI’s poll of 46 Americans with over $5million in investable assets.

Google Must Buy Twitter: 10 Reasons Why the Deal Needs to Happen Now

Google is slogging through calls from media, pundits and critics who want to see it gain greater placement in social media, where Facebook is currently king with more than 500 million users in six quick years. Google CEO Eric Schmidt stirred the pot Sept. 28 when he told the crowd at TechCrunch Disrupt that Twitter should be able to come up with ad products that are highly lucrative.

The funny thing is, Twitter already has! The microblog’s Promoted Tweets and Trends are capturing $100,000 a pop for a single link of prime placement on the Website, which has more than 160 million users. There is clearly a lot of ways Twitter can make money, eventually charging for analytics and other products for businesses to leverage their presence on Twitter.

Challenges for Quality of Service in Next Generation Mobile Networks

Next generation mobile networks, commonly referred to as 4G, are envisaged as a multitude of heterogeneous systems interacting through a horizontal IP-centric architecture.

This paper presents an overview of the issues arising in such hybrid systems and international research work, with particular emphasis on quality of service (QoS) and vertical handoff.

An outline of our research is presented, that is, optimising the handover process in proportion to both delay and throughput, by measuring QoS parameters and link characteristics at appropriate places in the networks, and drawing out decisions upon the profitability/necessity of a vertical handoff.

No social movement can succeed without activists willing to take serious risks for their cause. But other factors are also important. These include a critical mass of ordinary citizens who are at least sympathetic to, if not yet actively supportive of, the activist’s cause, and a strategy to reach and persuade as many of those citizens as possible. What makes the Internet revolutionary is not just that it makes it easier for activists to communicate with one another, but that it provides them with powerful new tools for informing and persuading their fellow citizens.

Before the Internet, personal communications like letters and phone calls didn’t reach enough people to threaten repressive regimes.

Microsoft Sues Motorola Over Android

Microsoft Corp. launched a legal attack aimed at fighting the explosive growth of cellphones powered by Google Inc.’s Android software, as the technology giant struggles to find its own answer to the shift away from traditional computers in favor of mobile gadgets.

The software company sued Motorola Inc., one of the biggest backers of Google’s software, claiming the cellphone maker is infringing nine patents in handsets powered by Android.

While Microsoft has struggled to win adoption of its Windows software for phones, Android, which Google gives away free, has been widely adopted by handset makers and software programmers.
